New Delhi: DGCA Issues Mandatory Guidelines for Indian Airlines

Following the closure of Pakistan airspace for Indian airlines, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued mandatory guidance to ensure passenger comfort and safety during extended flight durations and possible technical stops.

Passenger Handling Measures

Airlines are required to inform passengers at check-in about rerouting, longer flying times, and the possibility of enroute halts for refuelling and crew changes. Passengers will generally remain onboard during these stops.

Catering and Medical Support

Airlines must ensure adequate meals and beverages for the full duration of the flight, including additional hydration and special meals as per requests. Emergency medical support and ground ambulance services must be available at technical halt airports.

Impact on Airlines and Routes

Indian carriers operating flights between north India and the west, including Air India Group, IndiGo, and SpiceJet, are affected. Flights may now take longer routes, potentially increasing airfares by 30-40%.
