The annual inflation rate in Germany was confirmed at 2.2% in March, aligning with preliminary reports and analysts' expectations, as detailed in the final report released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Friday.

Monthly and Sectoral Insights

On a monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) experienced a 0.3% increase. The inflation was primarily driven by a significant 3.0% rise in food prices compared to March 2024, while energy prices saw a decrease of 2.8%. The core inflation rate, which excludes food and energy, rose by 2.6%.

The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) reported a 2.3% increase year-on-year and a 0.4% rise month-on-month, providing a broader perspective on inflation trends in Germany.
