Historic Agreements Signed During Xi Jinping's State Visit
During a significant state visit by General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping to Vietnam from April 14–15, pivotal agreements on railway and road cooperation were inked. Vietnamese Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh and Chinese counterparts formalized these documents, marking a new chapter in bilateral relations.
Railway Sector Takes Center Stage
Four key documents focused on accelerating transnational railway projects were signed. Notably, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) establishes a joint Vietnam–China Railway Cooperation Committee to prioritize rail projects. Additionally, plans for technical support and feasibility studies for the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong railway line were outlined, alongside China's commitment to assist in standard-gauge railway planning.
Road Transportation Agreements
Three agreements aim to enhance cross-border transport infrastructure, simplify movement procedures, and foster technical road cooperation. These initiatives are expected to boost trade and facilitate cross-border travel between Ha Giang province of Vietnam and Yunnan province of China.
Future Collaboration
The agreements not only provide a legal framework for joint projects but also promise advancements in engineering standards, technology, and construction practices, paving the way for future cooperation.
