
Workers' Income Sees Notable Increase Across Regions and Sectors
According to the National Statistics Office's latest report, the first quarter of the year witnessed a significant uplift in workers' average monthly income, reaching $320. This growth was observed across most regions and economic sectors, highlighting a positive trend in the labor market.
Regional Highlights
The north central and central coastal regions experienced an 11.7% year-on-year increase, with average earnings rising to VND7.3 million. The Red River Delta wasn't far behind, with workers earning an average of VND9.8 million, marking a 9.5% increase.
Urban areas continued to lead, with monthly incomes averaging VND10.1 million, significantly higher than the VND7.3 million observed in rural locations.
Sectoral Growth
The agro-forestry-fishery sector stood out with the highest growth rate of 9.8%, bringing monthly incomes to VND4.9 million. The service and industry-construction sectors also saw healthy increases of 9.2% and 8.2%, respectively.
Employment Trends
By the end of Q1, the employed workforce numbered 51.9 million, showing a slight decrease from the previous quarter but a 1.04% increase year-on-year. Urban areas employed 20 million workers, while rural areas accounted for 31.9 million.
Nguyen Huy Minh, deputy director of the office’s Population and Labour Statistics Department, emphasized the shift of workers towards more productive sectors, though noting that productivity levels still lag behind regional counterparts.
