Spain's Swift Recovery from Power Outage
In a remarkable turnaround, Spain's electricity grid operator, Red Electrica, announced on Tuesday that 99.16% of power demand has been successfully restored following a massive outage that hit the Iberian Peninsula the previous day. The operator confirmed that all transmission grid substations are now fully operational.
Portugal's Progress in Power Restoration
Meanwhile, Portugal's grid operator, REN, reported significant progress, with power restored to 85 out of 89 substations, showcasing the resilience and rapid response of the Iberian Peninsula's energy infrastructure.
Investigating the Cause
The blackout, attributed to grid oscillations, has been thoroughly investigated. European Commissioner for Competitiveness and First Executive Vice-President for Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, Teresa Ribera, emphasized that there were no signs of sabotage or cyberattacks behind the incident, reassuring the public and stakeholders about the security of the grid.
