German Consumer Confidence on the Rise
According to a recent joint report by the market research institute GfK and the Nuremberg Institute for Market Decisions (NIM), consumer confidence in Germany is expected to improve in May, reaching a figure of negative 20.6, up from the previous month's revised figure of 24.3.
Economic Resilience Amid Global Trade Shifts
Rolf Buerkl, a consumer expert at NIM, highlighted that the recent realignment of the US administration's trade policy, including the announcement of sharp tariff increases, has not yet had a lasting impact on German consumer sentiment. "The successful conclusion of coalition negotiations and the imminent formation of a fully functioning government are likely to mitigate any negative effects," Buerkl remarked.
