Spain Bounces Back: 99.16% Power Restoration After Iberian Peninsula Blackout

Power Restoration Progress in Spain

Following a significant blackout across the Iberian Peninsula, Spain's electricity grid operator, Red Electrica, announced on Tuesday that 99.16% of power demand has been successfully restored. The operator confirmed that all transmission grid substations are now fully operational, marking a swift recovery from the outage.

Portugal's Recovery Efforts

In neighboring Portugal, the grid operator REN reported that power has been restored to 85 out of 89 substations, indicating ongoing efforts to achieve full restoration.

Cause of the Blackout

The blackout was attributed to grid oscillations, with no evidence pointing towards sabotage or cyberattacks, as emphasized by European Commissioner for Competitiveness and First Executive Vice-President for Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, Teresa Ribera.
