Italy's Trade Surplus Soars to €4.5 Billion in February, Marking a Significant Turnaround

In a remarkable economic turnaround, Italy reported a trade surplus of €4.5 billion in February, a stark contrast to the €264 million deficit recorded in January, according to the National Institute of Statistics (Istat).

Export and Import Dynamics

Exports surged by 3.5% month on month, with imports also seeing a healthy increase of 1.7%. The growth was driven by a 3.7% rise in exports to EU countries and a 3.2% increase to non-EU nations. On the import side, goods from EU and non-EU countries grew by 2.4% and 0.8%, respectively.

Trade Balance Insights

The data revealed a €361 million trade deficit with the EU, overshadowed by a robust €4.8 billion surplus with non-EU countries. Additionally, import prices in February edged up by 0.6% from the previous month.
