In a landmark achievement for India's infrastructure sector, highway construction spanned an impressive 10,500 km, with toll collections soaring beyond Rs 60,000 crore in the last financial year. This marks the highest toll revenue in the history of the highway sector, despite the construction pace being the third-highest in the past five years.

Railways Also Set Record Earnings

The Indian Railways mirrored this success, registering its highest-ever earnings of Rs 2.7 lakh crore, fueled by transporting 1,617 million tonnes of freight and 735 crore passengers. A notable 6% increase in passenger transport and record manufacturing of coaches, wagons, and locomotives underscored the sector's growth.

Focus on Infrastructure Expansion

Officials highlighted the addition of 44,408 more goods trains and 41,929 wagons to the fleet, emphasizing the government's commitment to enhancing freight and passenger services. With 7,133 coaches manufactured last year, the focus remains on catering to the needs of low and middle-class passengers.
