Japan's Industrial Output Sees Slight Increase in December, Despite Annual Decline

Industrial Production Index Rises

In December, Japan experienced a 0.3% increase in its seasonally adjusted industrial production index, reaching 102.1. This data, according to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), shows a slight monthly improvement but also reveals a 1.1% decrease compared to December 2023.

Shipments and Inventories Show Mixed Results

The shipments index saw a 0.5% month-on-month increase to 100.3, yet faced a 2.4% decline year-on-year. Meanwhile, the inventories index stood at 100.6, marking a 0.7% decrease from the previous month and a 2% drop from the same period last year.

Inventory Ratio Adjustments

Lastly, the inventory ratio was recorded at 106.2, showing a 1.6% decrease on a monthly basis but a 1.9% increase compared to the previous year.
