Eurozone Faces Slight Uptick in Unemployment, Reaching 6.3% in December 2024

Eurozone Unemployment Rate Climbs to 6.3% in December

In a recent report by Eurostat, the Eurozone's unemployment rate was recorded at 6.3% in December 2024, marking a slight increase of 0.1 percentage points from November. However, it showed a decrease of 0.2 percentage points compared to the same month in the previous year.

EU Unemployment Trends

The European Union as a whole experienced a 5.9% unemployment rate in December, which is a 0.1 percentage point increase from November and a 0.1 percentage point decrease from December 2023. The total number of unemployed individuals was 10,830 in the euro area and 12,978 across the EU.

Country-Specific Unemployment Rates

Spain topped the list with the highest unemployment rate in the Eurozone at 10.6%, followed closely by Greece at 9.4%. On the other end of the spectrum, Czechia boasted the lowest unemployment rate at 2.6%, with Malta and Poland also performing well at 3%.
