Italy's Unemployment Rate Climbs to 6.2% in December

In a recent report by the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT), Italy's unemployment rate was recorded at 6.2% in December, marking an increase from 5.9% in November. This figure exceeded analysts' predictions, despite a decrease from the 7.1% rate observed in December 2023.

On a monthly basis, the employment scenario presented a mixed picture. Employment among men saw a slight increase of 0.2%, whereas there was a 0.3% decrease among women. Overall, the employment rate experienced a minor decline to 62.3% in December from 62.4% in the previous month. Conversely, the economic inactivity rate decreased to 33.5% in the same period.

Over the three-month span from October to December, employment witnessed a modest growth of 0.1% compared to the previous quarter. When compared to December 2023, employment rose by 1.2%, and the unemployment rate saw a significant reduction of 11.8%.
