Delhi Government Unveils Transparent Excise Policy
In a significant move, the BJP-led Delhi government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is set to introduce a new, "foolproof" excise policy. This policy aims to incorporate best practices from other states to enhance revenue while ensuring transparency and societal well-being.

Focus on Transparency and Revenue
CM Gupta highlighted the policy's dual focus on generating government revenue and avoiding societal issues. "We will bring a new, foolproof policy that is transparent and generates revenue for the government," she stated, emphasizing the careful design of the policy to benefit all stakeholders.
Learning from Other States
The new excise policy will draw lessons from successful implementations in other states, ensuring Delhi's approach is both innovative and effective. This move comes after the AAP's previous policy faced allegations of corruption, leading to its scrapping and a return to the older, government-run system.
Current Scenario and Future Plans
Currently, Delhi's liquor sales are managed by four government corporations operating about 700 stores. The recent review meeting with Excise Department officials underscores the government's commitment to a "transparent and effective" excise policy, promising a brighter future for Delhi's excise framework.
