The annual inflation rate in the United States decreased to 2.4% in March, down from February's 2.8%, as reported by the Labor Statistics Bureau on Thursday. This marks a significant shift in the economic landscape, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) also showing a 0.1% decrease month on month.

Energy and Food Prices Show Varied Trends
Over the past 12 months ending in March, the energy index experienced a substantial drop of 3.3%, with a monthly decrease of 2.4%. In contrast, food prices saw an increase of 3% compared to the same period in 2024, with a monthly rise of 0.4%.
Core CPI Adjustments Highlight Underlying Trends
The core CPI, which excludes the volatile food and energy sectors, grew by 2.8% year over year in March. This represents a 0.3 percentage point decrease from February's figures. On a monthly basis, the core CPI saw a modest increase of 0.1%.
