In a surprising turn of events, Germany's trade surplus expanded to €17.7 billion in February, up from €16.2 billion in January. However, this figure marks a decline from €22.6 billion recorded in February 2024 and fell short of analysts' expectations, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office Destatis.

Exports and Imports Overview

Adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the country's goods exports reached €131.6 billion, showcasing a 1.8% increase month-on-month and a slight 0.1% rise year-on-year. On the other hand, imports stood at €113.8 billion, with a 0.7% monthly growth and a more significant 4.6% annual increase.

Trade Within and Outside the EU

Germany's exports to other EU member states grew by 0.5% to €70.2 billion, while imports surged by 2.3% to €58.6 billion. Exports to non-EU countries saw a 3.2% increase to €61.4 billion, contrasting with a 1% decrease in imports, which totaled €55.2 billion.
