Germany's Trade Surplus Rises to €17.7 Billion in February, Defying Analyst Expectations

Germany's Trade Performance in February

The German trade surplus experienced a notable increase to €17.7 billion in February, up from €16.2 billion in January. However, this figure marks a decrease from the €22.6 billion surplus recorded in February 2024 and fell short of analysts' forecasts, as reported by Destatis, the Federal Statistical Office of Germany.

Exports and Imports Overview

On a seasonally adjusted basis, goods exports reached €131.6 billion, showing a 1.8% increase from the previous month and a slight 0.1% rise year-on-year. Imports, on the other hand, totaled €113.8 billion, with a 0.7% monthly increase and a more significant 4.6% annual growth.

Trade Within and Outside the EU

Exports to EU countries saw a modest 0.5% monthly increase to €70.2 billion, while imports surged by 2.3% to €58.6 billion. Trade with non-EU countries told a different story, with exports climbing 3.2% to €61.4 billion and imports decreasing by 1% to €55.2 billion.
