Sivasubramanian Ramann Appointed as New Pension Regulator in a Historic Move

New Delhi:

In a groundbreaking decision, the government has appointed Sivasubramanian Ramann, Deputy Comptroller & Auditor General, as the new pension regulator. This marks a rare occasion where an officer from the Indian Audit and Accounts Service has been chosen for such a prestigious role.

Government auditor Ramann is new pension regulator

Ramann is set to replace Deepak Mohanty, whose tenure as chairman of the Pension Fund Regulatory & Development Authority of India (PFRDA) concludes in May 2025. A 1991-batch officer, Ramann has been entrusted with a five-year term, coinciding with the introduction of the Unified Pension Scheme for government employees who joined from 2004 onwards.

Background and Experience

With a diverse career outside the CAG setup, Ramann has served as chief general manager and later as executive director at Sebi between 2007 and 2013. His leadership roles also include being MD & CEO of National E-Governance Services and Sidbi CMD from 2021 to 2024.

Educational Qualifications

An economics graduate from St Stephen's College, Ramann holds an MBA from FMS, Delhi University, a master's degree in regulations from the London School of Economics, and a law degree from Mumbai University.

Looking Ahead

As the financial sector watches closely, the spotlight now turns to the appointment of the next IRDAI chief, following the conclusion of Debasish Panda's term last month.
