Maruti's WagonR Takes the Lead in FY25 Sales
In a surprising turn of events, Maruti's WagonR has emerged as the highest-selling car in India for FY25, surpassing Tata's Punch. With sales of 1.98 lakh units, WagonR's performance is a testament to the enduring appeal of hatchbacks in the Indian market.
The SUV Dominance Challenged
Despite the growing popularity of SUVs, WagonR's success highlights a significant demand for hatchbacks. Hyundai's Creta followed closely as the third most-selling car, with 1.94 lakh units sold.
Maruti's Strategy Pays Off
Partho Banerjee, Maruti Suzuki's senior executive officer, emphasized the company's commitment to catering to all customer preferences, including hatchbacks and SUVs. "India's diverse market demands a variety of options," Banerjee stated.
The SUV Market Continues to Grow
The SUV segment, however, remains robust, accounting for 54% of total car sales in FY25. Maruti's Swift and Baleno also made it to the top sellers list, showcasing the brand's strong market presence.
