Zydus Lifesciences in Talks to Acquire Amplitude Surgical
In a bold move to expand its global footprint in the medical technology sector, Zydus Lifesciences has announced its negotiations to acquire a majority stake in Amplitude Surgical, a renowned French medtech firm specializing in high-quality, lower-limb orthopaedic technologies. The deal, valued at approximately 256.8 million euros (around Rs 2,500 crore), signifies a strategic leap for Zydus into the medtech arena.

Strategic Implications of the Acquisition
The acquisition price offers an 81% premium over Amplitude Surgical's last closing price as of March 10, highlighting the value Zydus places on this strategic investment. This move is poised to serve as a cornerstone for Zydus's ambitions in the global medtech industry, leveraging its profound expertise in life sciences and wellness to foster further expansion and innovation.
Future Plans and Industry Impact
Following the acquisition, Zydus Lifesciences plans to initiate a tender offer to acquire the remaining stake in Amplitude Surgical at the same purchase price of 6.3 euros per share, aiming for a complete buyout and subsequent delisting of the company. With Amplitude Surgical reporting a turnover of 106 million euros (around 1,000 crore) as of June 30, 2024, this acquisition is set to significantly bolster Zydus's position in the medtech sector.
Sharvil Patel, MD of Zydus Lifesciences, emphasized the strategic fit of this acquisition, stating, "Our legacy in science, health, and innovation has enabled a deep understanding of patient journey and their care pathways. We believe this was a natural extension in the field of medical technology."
