Real Estate Giant Lodha Battles Brother in Court Over Trademark Rights

High Court Battle Over the Lodha Name

Macrotech Developers, led by Abhishek Lodha, has initiated an intellectual property rights (IPR) lawsuit against his younger brother's real estate venture, House of Abhinandan Lodha. The dispute centers around the use of the 'Lodha' name, a brand synonymous with luxury real estate in India.

The Core of the Dispute

The lawsuit, filed in the Bombay High Court, seeks to prevent the House of Abhinandan Lodha from using the 'Lodha' or any similar branding for marketing properties. This legal action comes amid claims that such usage has led to confusion among buyers and investors, potentially costing Macrotech Developers over Rs 5,000 crore in losses.

A Family Feud with High Stakes

Abhinandan Lodha, who started his own real estate business after separating from the family enterprise, has seen rapid growth, with projects in 16 locations and gross sales exceeding Rs 6,500 crore. Despite this success, the legal battle underscores the complexities of brand identity and the lengths to which companies will go to protect their trademarks.

The case, now before Justice Arif Doctor, is scheduled for a hearing on January 27, with both parties gearing up for a legal showdown that could have significant implications for the real estate industry in India.
