Vietnam Expands Global Footprint with $665M Overseas Investments in 2024

Vietnam's Strategic Overseas Investments in 2024

In a bold move to diversify its investment portfolio, Vietnam has injected a significant $665 million into foreign markets in 2024. This marks a notable shift towards global engagement, despite the investment figures not yet reaching the heights seen before the pandemic, primarily due to the scarcity of large-scale projects.

Diversification Across Sectors and Geographies

The investment landscape in 2024 showcased a remarkable diversification, with capital flowing into 16 sectors. The lion's share went into professional services and science-technology (30.2%), followed by manufacturing (21%), and power generation and distribution (14.2%). Geographically, Vietnamese investments reached 31 countries and territories, with Laos leading as the top destination, capturing 28.8% of the total capital. Indonesia and India also saw significant increases, with Indonesia experiencing a 227-fold surge and India a nearly 60-fold increase from the previous year.

Vietnam's Growing Global Investment Portfolio

By the end of 2024, Vietnam's overseas investment portfolio boasted 1,825 valid projects, totaling over $22.59 billion. Vietnamese investors have maintained a strong presence across 18 out of 21 sectors, with significant investments in mining, agro-forestry-fishery, and information and communications. The top countries receiving Vietnamese investment include Laos, Cambodia, and Venezuela, highlighting Vietnam's strategic focus on these regions.
