Tata Steel Faces Closure Threat Over Toxic Emissions in the Netherlands

Dutch Regulators Demand Action from Tata Steel

Dutch environmental regulators have issued a stern warning to Tata Steel, threatening fines and the potential closure of one of its coke plants in IJmuiden if significant reductions in toxic emissions are not achieved within the next twelve months.

The North Sea Canal Area Environment Agency announced on Thursday that Tata Steel Netherlands could face fines of nearly €27 million ($28 million) if it fails to implement measures at its coke plants within eight weeks. The regulator emphasized that emissions of volatile organic compounds and heavy metals continue to exceed permissible limits.
