Vande Bharat Sleeper Prototype Undergoes Field Trials

The first prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper train has departed from ICF Chennai for field trials conducted by the RDSO. This new Indian Railways train, developed in collaboration with BEML, has been under rigorous quality and standard checks at ICF for the past two months.

Designed as a sleeper variant of the Vande Bharat chair car trains, this sleeper version aims to offer a superior ride comfort compared to the premium Rajdhani Express trains. With a top speed of 160 kmph and a higher average speed, it promises to revolutionize overnight travel on the Indian Railways network.

Key Features and Safety Protocols

The Vande Bharat sleeper prototype incorporates several contemporary features and passenger facilities, including KAVACH installation, jerk-free rides with secure semi-permanent couplers, and better ride comfort with more comfortable berths. It also complies with EN-45545 HL3 fire safety protocols and features an energy-efficient regenerative braking mechanism.

Other notable amenities include an emergency communication system linking passengers with Train Manager/Loco Pilot, specially designed facilities for Passengers with Restricted Mobility (PRM) in end driving coaches, and security cameras throughout all carriages.
