Upward Trend in Consumer Confidence
Consumer confidence in Germany is projected to improve in May, reaching negative 20.6, a notable increase from the revised figure of 24.3 in April. This optimistic forecast comes from a collaborative report by the market research institute GfK and the Nuremberg Institute for Market Decisions (NIM).
Factors Influencing the Positive Shift
Rolf Buerkl, a consumer expert at NIM, highlighted the resilience of German consumer sentiment despite initial concerns over the US administration's trade policy adjustments. "The announcement of significant tariff hikes by the US did not dampen the spirits of German consumers as much as anticipated," Buerkl noted.
Looking Ahead
The successful conclusion of coalition talks and the expected formation of a fully operational government are seen as key factors that could further bolster consumer confidence in the coming months.
