Scania's Strategic Acquisition
In a bold move to bolster its electrification capabilities, Volkswagen AG's Scania has announced the acquisition of Northvolt Systems Industrial unit. This strategic purchase includes production facilities, a cutting-edge data and research center, and a team of nearly 260 skilled employees.
A Partnership for the Future
The acquired unit is set to become a key partner of Scania Power Solutions, operating independently under Scania Ventures and New Business. While financial details remain under wraps, the deal underscores Scania's commitment to leading the charge in electrified solutions for off-road applications.
Expertise That Energizes
"Northvolt Systems Industrial Division brings valuable expertise in battery technology and assembly," said Sara Hermansson, head of Scania Power Solutions. "Their capabilities strengthen our modular approach and support the development of complete electrified solutions. I’m pleased to welcome the team to Scania."
Northvolt's Recent Challenges
This acquisition comes on the heels of Northvolt's bankruptcy filings in Sweden and the United States, as the company sought to restructure its debt amidst financial difficulties.
