China Escalates Trade War with US, Raising Tariffs from 84% to 125%

China's Bold Move in Trade War

In a significant escalation of the trade conflict, the Chinese Finance Ministry announced on Friday a drastic increase in tariffs on US imports, from 84% to 125%. This decision comes as a direct response to the Trump administration's imposition of a 145% tariff on Chinese exports. Effective from midnight local time on April 12, this move marks a new chapter in the ongoing trade tensions between the two economic giants.

China's Stance on US Tariffs

The ministry did not mince words, stating, "Even if the US continues to impose higher tariffs, it will no longer make economic sense and will become a joke in the history of the world economy." They further emphasized that at the current tariff levels, US goods would find no market acceptance in China. Beijing's message was clear: if Washington persists with its tariff policies, China is prepared to disregard them entirely.
