ECB Official Cautions EU Against Following Trump's Deregulation

At the Eurofi conference in Warsaw, Francois Villeroy de Galhau, a member of the European Central Bank (ECB) Governing Council and Bank of France Governor, made a strong statement against the financial deregulation policies advocated by United States President Donald Trump. He emphasized that the EU "mustn't follow" such policies, labeling Trump's economic and financial agenda as "a wrong path."
Lessons from the Past Ignored
Villeroy highlighted the dangers of forgetting the lessons learned from the 2008 global banking crisis, pointing out that "a strong wind is blowing from across the Atlantic" with a "dangerous temptation" to deregulate. He warned that such moves could "sow the seeds of future financial crises," urging the EU to maintain its regulatory framework to ensure financial stability.
