Germany's annual inflation rate remained steady at 2.2% in March, matching preliminary reports and analysts' expectations, as confirmed by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) in its final report. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) saw a modest increase of 0.3% from the previous month.

Key Drivers Behind the Inflation

The inflation was primarily driven by a 3.0% surge in food prices compared to March 2024, while energy prices experienced a significant annual drop of 2.8%. Excluding food and energy, the core inflation rate rose by 2.6%.

Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) Trends

The HICP showed a year-on-year growth of 2.3% and a month-on-month increase of 0.4%, indicating a consistent upward trend in consumer prices across the Eurozone's largest economy.
