VCCI and AmCham Urge US to Postpone New Tariffs on Vietnamese Exports Amid Trade Concerns

Joint Appeal to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce

In a unified stance, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AmCham) have dispatched a joint letter to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce. They advocate for a temporary suspension of proposed tariffs, highlighting potential disruptions to business operations, trade transactions, and the logistics chain.

Seeking Constructive Dialogue

The organizations, representing the business communities of both nations, emphasize the importance of open dialogues. Their goal is to collaboratively address the U.S. trade deficit with Vietnam, aiming to enhance living standards and foster mutual prosperity.

Concerns Over Proposed Tariffs

Expressing deep concerns, the letter references President Trump's consideration of imposing reciprocal tariffs up to 46% on Vietnamese imports. Such measures, they argue, could adversely affect member businesses, consumers, and bilateral trade relations.

Vietnam's Proactive Measures

The Vietnamese government's efforts to improve the trade balance and remove barriers for U.S. businesses and investors are acknowledged. Recent tax reductions on 13 product groups benefiting U.S. exporters and commitments to facilitate more U.S. imports are cited as positive steps.

Future Collaborations

VCCI and AmCham pledge continued cooperation with relevant agencies to tackle challenges in digital trade, pharmaceuticals, intellectual property, and more, underscoring the complementary nature of the two economies.
