US Treasury Secretary's Statement on China
United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent took to X on Monday to express his views on China's recent actions. According to Bessent, China has opted to "isolate itself by retaliating and doubling down on previous negative behavior." This statement comes in the wake of US President Donald Trump's threat to impose additional tariffs on Beijing, should the country proceed with its countermeasures.

In contrast, Bessent highlighted the strong alliance between the United States and Japan. He expressed optimism about the upcoming discussions on various trade issues, including tariffs, non-tariff trade barriers, currency matters, and government subsidies. Bessent commended the Japanese government for its approach to not hastily imposing reciprocal tariffs and mentioned that President Trump has directed him and the US Trade Representative to initiate negotiations with Tokyo.
