Water Supply Allocation Raises Eyebrows

A significant allocation of Rs1,120.50 crore has been made for water supply to CIDCO nodes, despite ongoing complaints from residents about insufficient potable water. Critics argue that the budget overlooks the pressing issue of water shortage and lacks focus on sustainability and environmental protection.

Environmental Concerns Highlighted

Environmental watchdog NatConnect Foundation Director BN Kumar expressed concerns over the lack of emphasis on sustainability, especially in coastal areas threatened by rising sea levels. The foundation also pointed out the absence of initiatives like rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharging in the budget.

Future Projects and Deadlines

CIDCO has mentioned several projects aimed at mitigating the water crisis, including the Tertiary Treatment Plant at Kalamboli and the Kondhane Dam on the Ulhas River, slated for completion in 2029–30. However, the lack of immediate solutions continues to leave many residents dependent on water tankers.
