MUMBAI: Mutual Fund Industry Sees Remarkable Growth

The mutual fund (MF) industry has witnessed a significant surge, with total assets under management jumping by 23% or Rs 12.3 lakh crore in fiscal 2025, reaching an impressive Rs 65.7 lakh crore. This growth was fueled by fresh inflows of about Rs 8 lakh crore and mark-to-market gains, as reported by AMFI.

Record Number of Folios and SIP Contributions

By the end of FY25, the total number of folios soared to nearly 23.5 crore, setting a new record. Equity funds accounted for 16.4 crore of these folios, with hybrid funds making up 1.6 crore. The average monthly systematic investment plan (SIP) contribution saw a 45% increase to Rs 24,113 crore, up from Rs 16,602 crore in FY24.

Venkat Chalasani, Chief Executive of AMFI, highlighted the growing maturity of retail investors and their trust in mutual funds as a cornerstone of financial planning.

March Sees Marginal Dip in SIP Inflows

Despite the overall growth, March experienced a slight decrease in monthly gross inflows through the SIP route, totaling Rs 25,926 crore compared to February's Rs 25,999 crore. This dip occurred even with some February SIP flows being carried over into March due to the shorter month.

Debt Funds Experience Net Outflow

In March, debt funds reported a net outflow of Rs 2.02 lakh crore, with liquid funds and overnight funds contributing Rs 1.33 lakh crore and Rs 30,015 crore, respectively.
