Italy's Retail Sales Experience Slight Uptick in February

According to the latest report from the National Statistics Institute, Italy witnessed a 0.1% increase in retail sales in February compared to the previous month. However, the sector faced a significant annual decline of 1.5%.

Food vs. Non-Food Sales: A Contrast in Trends

Food sales saw a modest rise of 0.4% month-over-month, while non-food goods sales remained stagnant. Annually, the scenario was less optimistic, with food goods sales dropping by 0.4% and non-food goods sales decreasing by 2.2%.

Annual Decline Marks a Decade Low

"February 2025 retail sales showed minimal monthly changes, with only the food sector experiencing a slight increase," the report noted. "Yearly, the decline was pronounced, marking the steepest drop in the past ten months across both value and volume. This downturn affected both food and non-food sectors, with large-scale distribution seeing a somewhat milder impact."
