US Escalates Pressure with New Sanctions Targeting Russia's Military Campaign in Ukraine

New Sanctions Announced by US Treasury

The United States Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has taken a significant step by adding several individuals, entities, and vessels linked to Russia's military campaign in Ukraine to its Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list. This action effectively freezes their assets within US jurisdiction.

Targets of the Sanctions

Among those targeted are five individuals—three from Russia, one from Afghanistan, and one from Iran—alongside four entities. Notably, AM Asia M6 Ltd., a company based in Hong Kong, is included in this list.

Political Context

This development follows indications from the Trump administration that some sanctions against Russia might be lifted to facilitate ceasefire negotiations in Ukraine. However, reports suggest President Trump believes Russian President Putin may be delaying talks to end the conflict.
