Historic Financial and Passenger Milestones for Indian Railways
NEW DELHI: In a groundbreaking achievement, the Indian Railways has reported its highest ever earnings, amassing approximately Rs 2.7 lakh crore in the fiscal year 2024-25. This remarkable financial performance is attributed to unprecedented revenues from both freight and passenger services.

Unprecedented Passenger and Freight Statistics
The railways witnessed a surge in passenger numbers, with 735 crore individuals choosing trains as their mode of transport, marking a 6% increase from the previous year. On the freight front, the railways transported 1,617 million tonnes, generating Rs 1.75 lakh crore in revenue, a testament to its efficiency and reliability.
Enhancing Infrastructure to Meet Growing Demands
To accommodate the escalating demand, the railways expanded its wagon fleet by 41,929 and manufactured 7,133 coaches, with a significant focus on non-AC coaches to serve the low and middle-class passengers. This strategic move underscores the government's commitment to accessible and affordable travel for all.
Strengthening India's Supply Chain
The Indian Railways continues to be the backbone of the nation's logistics, connecting mines, factories, agricultural regions, and ports with markets across the country. Its role in reducing logistics costs and enhancing the competitiveness of Indian goods on the global stage is unparalleled.
