According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), Germany's annual inflation rate experienced a minor decrease, settling at 2.2% in March down from 2.3% in February. This preliminary report highlights a continuing trend of moderate inflationary pressures within the country.

Monthly and Harmonized Index Insights

On a monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) saw an increase of 0.3%. Meanwhile, the Harmonized Consumer Price Index (HCPI), which excludes the volatile categories of food and energy, recorded a 2.3% year-on-year rise and a 0.4% increase month-on-month.

Food and Energy Prices Show Divergent Trends

The data revealed a 2.9% year-on-year increase in food prices, contrasting with a 2.8% decrease in energy prices compared to March 2024. These figures underscore the varying dynamics affecting different sectors of the economy.
