UK to Feel the Heat from Trump's Tariffs
British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's spokesperson, David Pares, acknowledged on Monday that the United Kingdom would not be immune to the effects of United States President Donald Trump's impending tariffs on select foreign goods, set to take effect on April 2.
Seeking a Prosperous Deal Amidst Tariff Tensions
"Our trade teams are engaged in ongoing, constructive discussions aimed at securing a UK-US economic prosperity deal," Pares stated during a press briefing. He emphasized, "However, any agreement must align with our government's commitment to ensuring economic stability for the British populace and must unequivocally serve the national interest."
No Response Off the Table
Prior to these developments, Starmer had made it clear that Britain was considering all possible responses to Trump's tariff announcements. This stance was followed by a mutual agreement between Starmer and Trump to persist with negotiations concerning the trade relations between the two nations.
