IATA's CO2 Connect Upgrade: Pioneering Sustainable Aviation Fuel Accounting for Greener Skies

IATA Enhances CO2 Connect with Sustainable Aviation Fuel Accounting

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced a significant upgrade to its IATA CO2 Connect emissions calculator, now incorporating carbon emissions reductions from Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) usage.

Transparency and Accuracy in Emissions Reporting

Frederic Leger, IATA’s Senior Vice President Commercial Products and Services, emphasized the importance of transparency and accuracy in emissions reporting for corporations and individual travelers, especially those investing in SAF.

Real Operational Data for Precise Calculations

Unlike other calculators relying on modelled averages, IATA CO2 Connect uses real operational data from participating airlines, enhancing the accuracy of its emissions calculations with each new airline contributor.

Future Enhancements and Global Standards

IATA plans to further refine CO2 Connect by enabling per-passenger SAF emission reductions on specific routes. The association also highlights the importance of a robust, global SAF accounting framework to support aviation's decarbonization efforts.
