Santander UK Announces Major Overhaul: 750 Jobs at Risk Amid Branch Closures

In a significant move to modernize its operations, Santander UK has unveiled plans that could see the elimination of approximately 750 jobs. This decision comes as part of a broader strategy to close an additional 95 branches, reshaping the bank's physical presence across the country.

"The decision to close a branch is never taken lightly. We dedicate considerable time to evaluating the impact of such closures on our customers and strive to minimize any inconvenience," a Santander UK spokesperson explained to CNBC.

By June 2025, Santander UK aims to streamline its network to 349 branches. This includes a mix of 290 full-service branches, 36 with reduced hours, 18 counter-free branches, and five Work Cafes. This strategic reduction is part of Santander's commitment to evolving its branch network to better meet the changing needs of its customers.
