January Marks a Significant Uptick in German Industrial Output
In a recent provisional report released by the Federal Statistical Office Destatis, Germany's manufacturing sector has witnessed a 2% increase in industrial production on a monthly basis this January. This rise comes despite a 1.6% drop compared to the same month last year, indicating a resilient yet fluctuating industrial landscape.

Key Sectors Driving the Growth
The automotive industry, a cornerstone of the German economy, experienced a notable 6.4% jump in production from the previous month. Similarly, the food industry saw a 7.7% increase, and machine maintenance and assembly production surged by an impressive 15.6% month-on-month, showcasing the diverse strengths within the sector.
Mixed Fortunes Across Different Production Areas
While intermediate goods production advanced by 3.3% and consumer goods output rose by 2.4% from December 2024, the energy sector faced a slight setback with a 0.5% decrease in production. This mixed performance highlights the varying dynamics across different segments of Germany's industrial sector.
