January Sees a 2% Surge in German Industrial Output, Led by Automotive and Food Sectors

Industrial Production on the Rise

Germany's industrial landscape witnessed a notable uptick in January, with the manufacturing sector's output climbing by 2% compared to the previous month, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office Destatis. However, when juxtaposed with January of the previous year, a slight decline of 1.6% was observed.

Sector-Specific Growth

The automotive industry led the charge with a significant 6.4% increase in production from the month before. Not far behind, the food industry saw a 7.7% rise, and the machine maintenance and assembly sector experienced a remarkable 15.6% surge in production.

Mixed Results Across Categories

Intermediate goods production wasn't left out, posting a 3.3% growth, while consumer goods output also enjoyed a 2.4% increase from December 2024. Conversely, the energy sector faced a minor setback with a 0.5% dip in production during the same period.
