France's Trade Deficit Widens to €6.5 Billion in January, Marking a Significant Increase

In January, France witnessed a notable increase in its trade deficit, which escalated to €6.5 billion from €3.9 billion in December, as reported by the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty (MINEFA).

Export and Import Dynamics

Exports saw a decrease of €1.4 billion, dropping to €49.8 billion on a monthly basis. Conversely, imports rose by €0.7 billion, reaching €56.4 billion in the same period.

Energy and Manufactured Goods

The energy balance further deteriorated by €0.1 billion, resulting in a negative balance of €3.3 billion in December 2024. However, there was a slight improvement in the manufactured goods sector, which saw a decrease in deficit by €0.1 billion to negative €2.3 billion.
