Steady Unemployment Rate in Germany

In February, Germany's unemployment rate remained steady at 6.4%, as reported by the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur fuer Arbeit) on Friday. This figure, consistent with previous months, comes as a surprise to many analysts who had predicted a rise.

Unemployment Figures Overview

The total number of unemployed individuals stood at 2,989,000, marking an increase of 5,000 from the previous month but still lower than expected. When compared to February of the previous year, unemployment has risen by 175,000.

Underemployment Rates

Underemployment, which includes both unemployment and short-term incapacity to work, was reported at 3,731,000 or 7.9%. This represents an increase of 2,000 from the previous month and a significant rise of 94,000 compared to February 2024.
