Germany's Unemployment Rate Remains Unchanged

In a recent report released by the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur fuer Arbeit), it was revealed that Germany's unemployment rate stayed constant at 6.4% in February. This figure, consistent with the previous month's data, came as a surprise to many analysts who had anticipated a rise.

Unemployment Figures and Trends

The total number of unemployed individuals in Germany was recorded at 2,989,000, marking a slight increase of 5,000 from the previous month. Despite this monthly uptick, the numbers were lower than expected. Compared to the same period last year, unemployment has risen by 175,000 people.

Underemployment on the Rise

Underemployment, which includes both unemployment and short-term incapacity to work, was reported at 3,731,000, or 7.9% of the workforce. This represents an increase of 2,000 from the previous month and a significant rise of 94,000 compared to February 2024.
