Mexico Fights Back: Strategic Tariff Measures Against US Trade Policies

Mexico's Bold Response to US Tariffs

In a decisive move, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced the implementation of both tariff and non-tariff measures to safeguard Mexico's interests. This strategy, referred to as "Plan B," comes as a direct response to the 25% tariff imposed by United States President Donald Trump on Mexican imports.

Sheinbaum firmly rejected the White House's allegations of the Mexican government's cooperation with criminal organizations. She highlighted the irony in the US's stance, pointing out the sale of high-powered weapons by US arms depots to these very groups, as evidenced by the US Department of Justice earlier this year.

Furthermore, the Mexican President emphasized the importance of defending national interests through these measures, signaling a strong stance against external pressures.

US Stance on Tariffs

The White House justified the imposition of tariffs as a means to encourage Mexico's cooperation in combating drug trafficking. However, Mexico's assertive response indicates a complex and escalating trade dispute between the two nations.
