India's Global Textile Market Share

Despite being recognized as a major textile exporter, India's global market share stood at a mere 2.8% in 2023, significantly lower than that of China (30%), Bangladesh (9%), and Vietnam (7%), as highlighted by the Economic Survey 2024-25.

Challenges Facing Textile Exporters

Textile exporters in India face numerous challenges, including complex procedures that require accounting for every square centimeter of fabric. Additionally, the necessity for pre-shipment inspection certificates for textile imports further complicates logistics and increases costs for the textile business.

Export Performance

After reaching a high of $44.4 billion in FY22, India's export of textiles and apparel declined to $35.8 billion in FY24, down from $36.69 billion in FY23.
