In an impressive display of economic strength, Switzerland reported a trade surplus of 15.1 billion Swiss francs in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to the Federal Customs Administration (BAZG). This significant figure was revealed in a report published on Thursday, highlighting the country's robust export sector.

Exports and Imports on the Rise

Seasonally adjusted data showed a remarkable 7.3% increase in exports quarter on quarter, totaling 71.1 billion francs. This surge was largely fueled by a 40.9 billion franc boost in chemical and pharmaceutical raw materials. On the other hand, imports experienced a modest rise of 1.6%, reaching 55.9 billion Swiss francs.

December's Trade Highlights

December alone saw a trade surplus of 4.3 billion Swiss francs, with exports at 24.3 billion and imports at 19.9 billion Swiss francs. Notably, Brazil, Taiwan, and the Czech Republic emerged as Switzerland's top export markets during this period, marking a significant shift in trade dynamics.
