Asia-Pacific Markets Mixed Following China's GDP Announcement
Following the release of China's better-than-expected gross domestic product (GDP) figures for the fourth quarter of 2024, major stock exchanges in the Asia-Pacific region experienced mixed trading on Friday. China's economy grew by an impressive 5.4% during this period.
Chinese Indexes on the Rise
In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite saw an increase of 0.40% by 7:11 am CET, closely followed by the Shenzhen Composite, which advanced by 0.84% a minute later. Meanwhile, South Korea's Kospi Composite experienced a slight decline of 0.19%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.41% at 7:13 am CET.
Other Markets' Performance
At the closing bell, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 fell by 0.20%, and Japan's Nikkei 225 tumbled 0.37% by 7:14 am CET. In currency news, the dollar traded 0.28% above the yen at 7:15 am CET, with a selling price of 155.62550.
