Amazon's Strategic Shift in DEI Programs
In a significant move, Amazon.com Inc. has announced plans to discontinue certain diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. This decision is part of a broader initiative to phase out outdated programs and materials, as revealed in an internal memo by Candi Castleberry, Amazon's Vice President of Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Focusing on Proven Outcomes and Inclusive Culture
"Our goal is to concentrate on programs that have demonstrated tangible outcomes and to cultivate a genuinely inclusive culture," stated Castleberry. She described this approach as an evolution towards embedding inclusivity into the company's fabric, moving away from superficial additions.
Meta Follows Suit
Joining Amazon in this strategic pivot, Meta Platforms Inc. has also decided to terminate its DEI initiatives. An internal memo to employees highlighted the changing legal and policy environment in the United States surrounding DEI efforts as the rationale behind this decision.
