Major Studios Pull the Plug on Venu Sports Streaming Venture Amid Market Shifts

End of the Road for Venu Sports

In a surprising turn of events, The Walt Disney Company, Fox Corporation, and Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. have announced the discontinuation of their plans to launch the Venu sports streaming service. This decision, made public on Friday, marks a significant shift in strategy for the media giants.

Adapting to the Evolving Market

"In an ever-changing marketplace, we determined that it was best to meet the evolving demands of sports fans by focusing on existing products and distribution channels. We are proud of the work that has been done on Venu to date and grateful to the Venu staff, whom we will support through this transition period," stated the companies in a joint announcement.

Legal Hurdles and Delays

Originally announced in February 2024 with a planned launch in September of the same year, the Venu sports streaming service faced numerous delays. A significant setback occurred in August 2024 when United States District Judge Margaret Garnett temporarily halted the launch due to an antitrust lawsuit initiated by Fubo TV.
